LIVING IN THE WRONG PLACE

It,s Very Cool and blustery outside so just for fun i decided to check the temperatures across Canada, If i can belive the weather net work it is now PLUS C all the way across the country and here they are, Cornerbrook+ 9, Toronto+ 14, MANITOUWADGE+ 1, Calgary+ 13, Fort Mcmurray+ 13, YELLOWKNIFE+ 10, Vancouver+ 16. Now you see the reason for my title. Sorry if i missed out your town. But it seems wherever you are you are having it warmer than here in Manitouwadge, perhaps not for those of you in…

Sailing Kayak

Thinking about Sailing Kayaks there is a home built design which might be worth looking into by anyone who would like a purpose built sailing machine. It is a plan offered by clark craft.com in the USA. the size is 14 feet long by 24 inches wide it dosn,t have a pontoon set up but those would be easy to make and if of a decent length a great asset, it shows lee boards but a centre board could easily be fitted if wanted, there will be sails on the plan but klepper S1 sails might fill the bill. Al…

WIND GUAGE

I often would like to know the speed of the wind, so i have bought the German wind guage called "Windtronic 2". It appears to be well made, plastic housing of course and is supposed to be water tight and floats, (to look at it it doesn,t look water tight and i am not going to test it) it measures wind speed in,kilometer/hour, knots, miles per hour and meters/second. It is at the lower end of the price range and cost $69.90 US at Hobby Lobby ( the model people) in March 2009

canoe sailing rigs

I bought the book " CANOE RIG The Essence and the Art by Todd E Bradshaw " and can recommend it to anyone looking at sails for a canoe, they all seem to be here, plus details for everything you would like to know and more, there are no photographs but the many drawings are excellent and on their own are justification to buy the book.

THE COCKLESHELL CANOES

From my first impressinons i can recommend the book THE COCKLESHELL CANOES by Quentin Rees. This is about the British military canoes (kayaks) used in WW2, and is the first account and history of this branch of the military service and the developement of the craft. All paddlers should try and purchase one, the number is ISBN 978 1 84868 065 4 and published by Amberly publishing Plc. www.amberly-books.com
